Freddie Stroma was born Frederic Wilhelm C.J. Sjöström in London, England on January 8, 1987, to a Swedish father and a German mother. Although he was born in London, he was educated at the boys-only boarding school Radley College and was the middle child of three with an older sister and a younger brother. Whilst undertaking a degree in Neuroscience at University College London, Freddie's film and modelling career began to flourish, leading him to take a break from his academic studies so that he could appear as Cormac McLaggen in the film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Following filming, Stroma returned to University College London to complete his degree, claiming that it, "would have been a shame to just throw it away." He also attained a second class degree.
Stroma played small parts on a string of British TV shows, including Casualty and BBC's Mayo before being cast as Cormac McLaggen in the film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. He attended various premieres for the film throughout the globe. He was later cast as Cool Brett in the crime-thriller film 4.3.2.1. He was later recast in the Harry Potter series in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and Part 2. He later appeared in the direct to DVD film A Cinderella Story: Once Upon A Song, as a British student, Luke Morgan.
